Introduction

Back in early July in the wake of the release of both Batman: The Dark Knight and the Avatar: The Last Airbender series finale, an excited buzz was running through both fandoms. It was only a matter of time before someone made the connection between Princess Azula, who goes crazy in the final episodes of Avatar, and The Joker, an iconic anarchist villain featured in the The Dark Knight. A simple photoshop manip of Azula with Joker facepaint popped up on /co/, entitled "Starting tonight, people will die. I'm a woman of my word". It was answered to with a shop of Sokka with a Batman mask on and the words "Not in my town you won't." From those two comparisons, a group of /co/mrades continued to make combinations and find similarities between the two universes. And thus was born "Wolfbatman".

What exactly is Wolfbatman?

"Wolfbatman" is the name we've given to this amalgam of the Avatar: TLA and Batman universes. And also Sokka's vigilante alter-ego.During the development process, someone pointed out that there are no bats in the Avatar world. But there are wolfbats, from episode 202 The Cave of Two Lovers. Combined with Sokka's Wolf armor in Season three, as well as his lack of bending, his ability to think ahead and use his brain rather than any specials powers to fight, this led to the perfect combination, the Wolfbatman.

What this basically is an AU of the Avatar Universe, only certain events took a different path and led to a much more violent, grim world. In the same style as theartrix's ~InspectorIroh. But not quite, See the next section for details.

We're constantly working on Wolfbatman. And here's the real difference with other AU's. There isn't one True Canon to go by. When we started this, we agreed to not get too wrapped up in what's "official" and what's not. So anyone was free to come up with their own version. As the current version stands:
-Sokka left the South Pole before Aang and Katara to make a life in Ba Sing Se.
-Aang and Katara never went on the FN ship together. They lived in the Southern Water Tribe for several months/couple of years, fell in love. Then Aang is mortally wounded, and Katara tries to heal him but something goes wrong, leading to the origin of Ms.Freeze.*
*(The main point of this is to remove Aang from the story, as he's the Superman of the Avatar world and wouldn't fit well with the Batman-based universe)
-Zuko and Iroh went to Ba Sing Se on their own, then parted ways.
-A rising crime spree is spreading through Ba Sing Se.
-Iroh was named Commissioner of police. Somehow. We're still working on that.
-Zuko and Mai reunited somehow. Until the accident involving Jincrow which led to the creation of Two-Face Zuko and Maivy
-There is no Sozin's Comet. Or this isn't the year it returns.

This sounds awesome! Can I join?

Short Answer: No. And yes.


Long Answer: Like I said, this isn't 100% like Inspector Iroh. I'm afraid that a particular group is already working on the Main story (If we ever get off our butts and finish it). HOWEVER, you can help yourself to make fanart and fanfiction as you like. I repeat: There is no one specific Canon in the Wolfbatman AU, that's why you see different versions of one character's origin and designs. So if you're familiar enough with both the Avatar: TLA and Batman universes, then feel free to come up with your own version. We would, however, prefer it if you sticked to some of the comparisons that we've already come up with, as well as some of the more obvious ones i.e. Azula as The Joker, Sokka as (Wolf)Batman, Zuko as Two-Face.
